Meet Li Onesto

  

Li Onesto was the first foreign journalist to travel extensively into the guerrilla zones of Nepal in 1999. Her book Dispatches from the People's War in Nepal, published by Pluto Press and Insight Press, has also been translated and published in Nepal, India, and Germany. And her writings about Nepal have been circulated internationally-translated into Nepali, Spanish, Italian, French, Hindi, German, Pashtun (in Afghanistan), and Chinese. Onesto's photography show, "The People's War in Nepal: Faces from a Hidden War" has been on display in several cities in the U.S.

As a reporter for Revolution newspaper Onesto went to New Orleans in 2006 after Hurricane Katrina to interview residents and volunteers in the Ninth Ward. Her photo essay "Still Winter in New Orleans" came from this trip.

Onesto also traveled to Jena, Louisiana to write about and photograph the September 20, 2007 protest when tens of thousands came from all over the country to demand that the Jena 6 be freed.
